For years, news writers have been claiming Adam Lanza created a massive 7 by 4 foot spreadsheet detailing previous killers murders. The article that it  first was mentioned in had massive anti-gamer stereotyping in it, claimed it as a “gamer score sheet”, mentioned a bullshit “code of a gamer” which says it’s preferable to kill  yourself then to be caught, and other nonsense.

The police and the state of Connecticut have been massively anti-gaming from the get go, back to the time of Senator Lie-Berman’s BS. It’s no surprise they are using this against gamers, but I still don’t like it. The article stereotypes gamers as murderers, and the police are directly behind the nonsense in that article. Nonsense? Well according to me, this spreadsheet cannot exist.

Why?

The spreadsheet supposedly is 7 feet by 4 feet, written in a 9 font, and contains 500 murders in the columns. I looked at a spreadsheet made in Open Office (identical to Excel in everything but name) and found out that with a 9 font, 1 inch equaled 5 columns. Multiply that by 12 to get columns in a foot and you get 60. Multiply that by 7 and you get only 420 columns. This spreadsheet is impossible! It cannot fit 500 names in it. Therefore, it can’t be real.

It’s BS and the official investigation claims it’s real. The state of Connecticut is using faked evidence to attack games again. And they are stereotyping gamers as murders when only 2 out of 211,000,000 gamers (0% of gamers) have killed people in 2012.  It’s complete BS and it must stop.

It’s stupid that Connecticut is doing this. Their Report is a farce. It never mentions why he killed

those people in the school. It only claims he was a gamer and uses that as a stereotype to attack the millions of gamers who haven’t killed anyone. Bullshit like this must be stopped people!

Today, after reading the articles I posted on the Doom Hoaxes, where Doom was blamed for columbine using fake evidence, fabricated in 1999, I decided to write another article about video game related nonsense and how my efforts to debunk such hoaxes have really helped to show how idiotic the doom moral panic was.

The first such hoax “Doom will become reality”, supposedly was said on Eric Harris’s website but several sites proved that it was fake at the time. But their proof did not get far, because many more sites said this was proof that Doom did in fact cause columbine, all attacking violent video games at the same time. At the time, any and all search results for the phrase lead to sites attacking violent games. My debunking it helped to change that however. Go search for “Doom Will become reality” on google.com and you get this:

My blogs and videos debunking this nonsense are now at the top of the results. Surprise! Saying that the Doom will become reality hoax is just that, over and over again can do wonders to the search results. My stuff has seriously trumped all the anti-gamer nonsense BS sites saying Doom was the cause for the massacre.

But this thing doesn’t end here.

Another much more complex hoax involved 3 articles from 3 newspaper saying a modified version of doom was found on Eric Harris’s website/or computer. (it differs per source, weirdly). The modified version of doom had begging students saying a certain phrase and many features doom could not do in 1999. At the time searching for some phrase in the articles themselves led to tons of sites all citing the claims like they were a fact. That is still true. But if you google “modified version of doom columbine” you get the most popular article and my debunkings right below it. Not as successful as the last debunking, but close.

Now if you googled the phrase “Doom caused columbine” before I mentioned the phrase over and over again with various articles here, you would get tons of sites saying that Doom did in fact cause columbine. Now this is what you get:

After the wikipedia article, my debunking is right below! I never expected the debunking to get so high in the search results. I expected that some people would read it and then stow it away, and at best I would get mentioned on some gaming forum. I wasn’t expecting my results on the Doom will become reality hoax to include my articles first. With all the sites (100’s) saying that this hoax is proof doom did cause columbine, you’d expect my post to be much lower, but no.

But before we go, I want to do another Fake Doom BS debunking right here. Not quite as popular in the game attacking sites as the 2 last ones but still mentioned from time to time is the following long paragraph written by Harris himself:

“everyone should be put to a test. an ULTIMATE DOOM test, see who can survive in an environment using only smarts and military skills. put them in a doom world. no authority, no refuge, no BS copout excuses. If you cant figure out the area of a triangle or what “cation” means, you die! if you cant take down a demon w/ a chainsaw or kill a hell prince w/ a shotgun, you die! fucking snotty rich fuckheads [Censored by J.C.Sheriff Office] who rely on others or on sympathy or $ to get them through life should be put to this challenge. plus it would get rid of all the fat, retarded, crippled, stupid, dumb, ignorant, worthless people of this world. no one is worthy of this planet only me and who ever I choose. there is just no respect for anything higher than your fucking boss or parent. everyone should be shot out into space and only the people I saw should be left behind. 4/12/98″

This phrase is clearly talking about doom multi player, not actually putting people in a school shooting situation. Any gamer can see that. But the people who never played video games would see it a different way, because of the way the articles using this against doom quoted it. The “ultimate doom challenge” is clearly just multi player. Not a school shooting. After that he goes into a total psychotic attack against people who are rich and says they should be killed. But this is used to blame doom constantly. How do we debunk this?

We look for other references to doom in his writings. In most of them Doom is mentioned with other things such as war, with no context to what they are actually describing, such as “this will be like doom, ww2, the korean war rolled into one”. What is he talking about. You can’t tell. There is no way to know, so how to the anti-gamers know this is about the massacre? They don’t. They just want others to believe it is.  In all of his writings there is plenty of evidence that Doom was NOT influencing him to commit the massacre.. this following quote proves it:

“someones bound to say “what were they thinking?” when we go NBK or when we were planning it, so this what I am thinking. “I have a goal to destroy as much as possible so I must not be sidetracked by my feelings of sympathy, mercy, or any of that, so I will force myself to believe that everyone is just another monster from Doom like FH or FS or demons, so It’s either me or them. I have to turn off my feelings.” keep this is mind, I want to burn the world, I want to kill everyone except about 5 people, who I will name later, so If you are reading this you are lucky you escaped my rampage because I wanted to kill you. It will be very tricky getting all of our supplies, explosives, weaponry, ammo, and then hiding it all and then actually planting it all so we can achieve our goal. but if we get busted any time, we start killing then and there, just like Wilks from the AlIENS books, I aint going out without a fight.”

Notice how he said he would have to “force himself to believe all students are doom monsters” to turn off his feelings during the massacre? No way is this  something doom did. Look for more references to Doom in the writings I linked and you get one reference to WW2, and one to the doom shotgun, the ultimate doom test and this. That’s it.

Speaking of ww2. Why is the obvious fact and motive that Harris was a Nazi fuckhead completely looked over? Do I have to quote the exact quote where he worships hitler/Nazi’s. now. But search for it and you will find more info on his obssession with Nazi’s. Why was this totally ignored by all the groups that attacked doom? It’s all over his writings, Racial Slurs, references to Nazi’s, swastika’s, plane as day to see. Yet this was totally ignored and Doom was blamed instead? WTF!

In any ordinary mind this would be much more likely motive than being “brainwashed by doom”. But people in Colorado started blaming doom right and left till it was mass hysteria.  It got so out of control that even I was threatened by some dickhead on a forum over it (long story).  This is just more proof that the people blaming doom, skipping over his hatred of people/love for Nazi’s, are complete idiots. His multiplayer “Ultimate Doom test” was used like the “Doom will become reality hoax” to demonize Doom constantly in  various attack sites, even to this day. It’s rediculous.

At least I can try to stop this nonsense, and I think I have been relatively sucessful.

Damian Ichabod 1 Idiots 0!

Last night, I started watching the anti-video game violence BS videos I’ve been posting on youtube since 2010.  At least one video goes into a Conspiracy Theory of mine saying that all the attacks on video games that seem bogus in this country are part of a government conspiracy to cause violent games to be gotten rid of, banned, etc… It’s a crazy theory, but it has stuff to back it up.

One of the ideas that I keep bringing up to back this up is that articles making up utter bullshit about Doom, and how these news pages linking this have been mysteriously taken down!!! Basically there are 3 articles that claim Harris modified doom to train for the school shooting on. But the modified version of doom was proven by me to be completely false… But since then the sites hosting the 3 articles online have been Mysteriously shutting down……

Here is a site that used to host an article, the second on of the 3 with the most faked features supposedly found in the article. Now the site is no longer there:

Now, here is what is left of a site that used to host the times news article that started this whole thing. It’s now mysteriously shut down….. Is this evidence of a coverup?

Going into the features of the modified version of doom, I have proven it could not have possibly been real… Doom simply could NOT do the features the described in 1999.  The weird thing is that the more you look into the claims you start seeing tons and tons of little inconsistencies that make it seem like a bunch of people were spreading anti-doom rhetoric ™.  According to the articles, the hate site tracking group found the fake doom on his Website. But the following article claims the person mentioned from the group found it on his computer….. What the hell…  Are they in on the possible conspiracy to try to get games banned using fake evidence to cause an outcry and government intervention? I don’t know but… It’s very suspicious….

Notice how the top article’s image says the the modified version of doom on was found on his PC. And it didn’t even say it was a modified version, it wasn’t even made clear. Below it says that the same group found it on his website. Which is true? Which is false? Are they both false like I suspect? I don’t know… But it’s very suspicious that nonsense like this, was cited in over 100 different “attack sites” all bringing it up as proof that doom either was a factor or a cause for the school shooting, even thought the version of doom mentioned is not real. Later on, these articles claims were used against violent games in Brown VS EMA in a right wing anti-violent games group’s Amicus brief, filled with other major lies such as video games break down the inhibition to kill (debunked here), that Cornell learned how to shoot from doom, and doom only and other similar things (debunked here).  and then later the sites hosting the articles, long after I started my debunking on them, started mysteriously going down. I think there is a coverup going on but I can’t prove it. It’s just very suspicious to me.

A long time ago a time magazine article about columbine claimed a modified version of doom was found on Eric Harris’s Aol Site, with several dubious features, all which have been debunked by me. The features include a “second shooter”, “infinite ammo and extra weapons for both shooters” and the ability for the shooter who ran out of ammo first, to be killed upon this happening. I debunked these claims many, many times, because frankly, I am disgusted by news articles making up bogus crap to cause moral panics like this.  But I will again…

The “second shooter” would require friendly AI, and in 1999 only one sourceport could even do this, MBF (Marine’s best friend). But here is the issue, the ability to make any enemy in a modified dehacked patch (what Harris would need to do for this to work) requires documentation that didn’t come out till 2000. Now to debunk the “infinite ammo and extra weapons for both shooters”.  Number 1, infinite ammo is possible, but the extra weapons for both shooters is a complete nonsense claim. In 1999 adding new weapons without replacing existing ones was not possible, period. Dehacked was the only way to mod back then and it simply wouldn’t allow you to do this because it was a simple EXE editor to change simple variables. The extra weapons for the second shooter, is the second worst claim in this article, it requires the ability to script an entity to do this, to create a completely new enemy that has the ability to use all weapons the player does, plus the impossible “Extra” weapons, this would require Zdoom, which didn’t have the decorate language built into it necessary to do this till the mid 2000’s.

Now you get the most impossible feature of them all, the ability for the “shooter who ran out ammo first” to die. This is frankly, not even doable without both Hexen format levels that allow you to “tag” any entity to keep track of it so the next part the scripting language to kill them apon running out ammo (also scripted), and the scripted language itself (ACS). This wasn’t even possible till 2001 or later. The article is a bunch of bogus nonsense claims and inflammatory claims such as “They were playing their game in God Mode” and similar. But none of this stopped the writers to spread this nonsense to new articles featuring even more fake claims!!!! The Real stupid thing is that this claim of running out of ammo kills you is IMPOSSIBLE with the “unlimited” mentioned before in the same article!!! This writer got away with this nonsense and almost no one complained? WTF!

Lo and behold, an article by the Rocky Mountain News, mentioned how the same hate site tracking group that supposedly found this impossible to make in 1999 version of doom. But they only mentioned the infinite ammo, extra weapons, and second shooter claim, not the shooter who runs out of ammo dying first. They added their own dubious claim, Begging students that cried a phrase “`Lord, why is this happening to me?”.   This  article would be eventually mirrored on super columbine Massacre RPG’s Site (a sick RPG based on the School Shooting) but eventually was deleted…  But here comes the weird thing. APA (The American Psychological Association started citing the false articles (one of them) in a paper proving “video game aggression” (misquoted as proving video games cause real life violence by many “Experts” on Talk shows or news station reports from 1997 to 2006).  This made it’s way to an essay about the “effects” of violent video games and this is how I traced everything in reverse from the essay, to the APA paper, to the Rocky mountain news, and back to the Times article that made it up, and without me finding the Times and Rocky Mountain News Article I would never be able to debunk this…

Later on A Denverpost Article mentioned the begging students that cried the phrase but the phrase was now “shouted” and changed to “” ‘My Lord, why did you do this to me?’ “.  So which is it? This or the older quote. Neither. It’s fudged, made up, fabricated because they couldn’t even get  the way it was said or the quote right! The Denverpost article also fails to even mention any of the modified doom features besides this so no one would know it’s fake, and mentions that Harris made a Columbine High School Doom level, a known hoax, debunked by Snopes, and supposedly “proven” not to be a hoax by a pro-columbine-conspiracy journalist with no sense of the truth, quoting a report from a student saying Harris Did make the level, but the report in question he mentions most likely was based on the fake news article from the Conneticut Journalist who said the same exact same thing, “A Student friend of Harris said he made the School in Doom” but later own admitted he made the whole claim up. Lovely example of spinning the truth by idiots in Colorado, Isn’t it?

But it’s more than that… The 2 articles for Colorado Newspapers (the Denver Post and Rocky Mountain News ones) are the only ones to mention the very Dubious “begging students” claims that can’t even get the quote screamed by these begging students right, or how the quote was even said… Right after Columbine you got a ridiculously paranoid witch hunt for Video games and their players that was worst in Colorado. People started fanatically believing that violent games and Doom Caused the Massacre, and that there was no other factor, whatsoever. It was a 20’th century Witch Mob! They also thought that  players of such games were sicko sociopaths with no heart, like Eric Harris. This was happening all over Colorado and it lead to ban violent games legislation, and lawsuits. But what triggered it? I have a theory, these articles, indirectly or intentionally triggered it using the people’ preconceptions of violent games as a base.

The “hack Psychologists” who went on talk shows during the 1997 school shooting in Paducah came back in force in 1999 with claims of nonsense, such as how the Military uses games like this to break down the Inhibition to killl, even though a blogger from the Military disproved this here. But the claims that violent games desensitize people to real life violence were starting to be believed and these hack psychologists kept repeating this and the break down the inhibition to kill quote ad-nauseum.  One even wrote a completely fabricated book claiming it was true and hires internet trolls to cite this book in comments attacking violent games in articles in newspaper sites attacking violent games. So what would a person who refuses to question anything they hear and believes it all, and has no gaming and doom modding experience think when they read the denverpost article?, they would assume Harris could easily, in 5 seconds, with a menu in the game, make the supposed mod, and this leads them to believe that “Doom Caused Columbine”. Why? They already believe that violent games make kids desensitized to real violence, which is just another way of saying that the kids playing such games, who before they played the games could tell the difference between reality and fantasy, loose that ability after obsessively playing them. Now combine that with the belief from the article that Harris was able with a click of a button turn doom into a school shooting sim, and you get people who think that this modified version of doom is responsible. Now comes the people wanting to sue id for allowing the game to be easily modified through a menu to make it a school shooting simulator. More backlash happens. Then you get paranoid people who are still trying to mourn the victims of the massacre, and not thinking straight as a result, assume that Doom had the school shooting simulator somewhere in it and it would have to if only “one click of a button” was needed to mod it like that. So in that case “doom” made harris want to kill the kids now, technically. Some people don’t understand games at all, and don’t even know what a Mod is, and they assume the original game is also a school shooting simulator. No where in any of these articles is it even made clear that the modded version required a lot of work with “third party” software and ID has nothing to do with this at all. That didn’t help any… None of the people are non-gamers who read that article understand how doom. They just assume it’s a violent game and they “assume” Doom is a school shooting Simulator. This lead to the BS claim “Doom Caused Columbine” after millions read and misinterpreted this article.

Apparently the Obama Admin. is setting up even more  (possibly) biased studies to be done by the Centers for Disease Control, to see if there is a link between Gun Violence and Violent Media. The problem I have with it is that to, my knowledge, there has not been a single non-biased study done about the subject, and evidence surrounding the funding of brain-scan studies by the “Center for Successful Parenting”, shows that they are nothing but a group trying to force the government and others to try to get rid of violent entertainment, really biased… Read their mission statement with my interpretations in the image below:

The first thing I think about this whole plan that Obama is setting up is that the CDC is hardly an unbiased source, and no matter who does these studies, they still have idiots trying to sway them. In 2010 during  the Brown VS EMA Supreme court, an extremist Right wing Pro-family, anti-violent games group sent an Amicus Brief to the court that cited known lies and hoaxes such as the “Doom Will Become reality Hoax” (debunked here), the Claim Eric Carneal got better at firing a real gun just by playing Doom (debunked here), and that the Military uses FPS games to break down the inhibition to kill (debunked here, by someone in the military). There is always someone trying to get their agenda through, and this attempt by this group from the midwest was clearly an attempt to Hijack the Supreme Court with bogus crap to try to make them vote the other way, which would have lead to an effective ban of violent games not just to minors, but to adults too. (Read up on articles I wrote about Brown Vs EMA to understand why).

The CDC are hardly in a qualified position to know what is true and what is faked in the “evidence” department. They handle “infectious diseases” not fact checking about violent games.  In fact 99% of the nonsense spread about violent games is fake. There are literally hundreds of news article making up crap about violent games that very few people have looked through them to see that they are false. And after School shootings, especially Columbine, Fabricated Evidence was used to demonize games, in the form of hoaxes including the doom will become reality hoax, but there was a far more sinister hoax in place involving 3 articles, one from Denverpost.com, one from Rocky Mountain News, and another from Times Magazine all claiming Harris customized doom to be used to simulate the Massacre with (with begging students). This version supposedly had features doom could not do at that time, including a second shooter (friendly AI, Impossible to create for Doom mods in 1999). It also supposedly had  begging students that scream quotes, but the quotes said varied from article to article, and so did how they begging students said the quote (one said screaming, the other said begging). And it also supposedly had the ability for either student to die when running out of bullets (impossible to program in doom then, no source code to actually do this, it would be needed to do it right), and no other way of doing it as well, no editing program then allowed you to do this, dehacked didn’t, editing tools did’t, etc. The thing is that each article mentioned some of these but only one mentioned the last, the first printed one, the one from Times Magazine. The next mentions the begging students and the second shooter, and then the third mentions the begging students only. It’s like 3 different newspapers all conspired to fake evidence to make doom like it contributed to the shooting, using ideas that would be in a school shooting simulator, as the supposed modified versions features,  when the game couldn’t have allowed the modder to make such a mod in the first place…

Now it’s possible, but only because of the source code (released after columbine), allowed source ports that support extensive scripting languages to code this thing into mods. Back then no source port even had scripting language support. How do I know all of this? I have edited doom since 1994. I am an ACS wiz, I know how to program, I have spend my free time since 1996 learning how to mod the game and make levels for it as well. My Point is that someone will try to slip bogus information to the CDC. Who is  there to see through it? Something needs to be done… I just don’t know what yet…

If they allow people to persuade them that all of this info I have debunked is true (and there are hundreds of websites saying it is), we would have a situation where special interest groups who are biased against violent games decide the outcome of a study using false data, leading to more legislation… This could be disastrous. If you think they will only use this stuff, then you are wrong. What nonsense will they make up for this? These falsifications are very deceiving, there is very little data to prove that they are engineered, and none of the people looking at them in the CDC are Video game players, who know that the Doom hoax with the three articles can’t be true. Who is there to balance this out? No one… That’s why it’s scary.

All this takes is some false data being brought to the attention of the CDC, something they cannot debunk, and it spirals out of control. Enough false data that is set up to make it look like School Shooters train on violent games or are influenced by them would lead to the CDC saying that there is a link between gun crimes and violent games. Then comes the legislation of morality causing violent games to be in the cross hairs of the groups who aren’t satisfied with a mere restriction to adults, they want the industry GONE by any means necessary. So that means bans of violent games to adults as well… Then comes the idiots who think that gamers are the cause of school shootings and they would be targeted next. It’s already happening, Leland Yee said some crappy remarks about gamers recently, like we only care about “our lust for violence”, and we need to “shut up”. This is a nightmare waiting to happen…

Just in case the people who have been shutting down sites (like the second one that proved the doom will become reality hoax was just that, a hoax) that debunk this nonsense here are screenshots proving the debunking still exists once they get shut down:

First the Post on the Design Synthesis blog debunking the claim that the military uses Violent FPS games to break down the inhibition to kill.

Now the image of the supposed “Eric Harris” Aol Site that says “On April 21’st Doom Will Become Reality” (not April 20’th….)

And now a screenshot ofthe site dedicated to all things related to the Columbine Massacre that Debunks this hoax (acolumbinesite.com/ericpage.html):

Just incase the video gets taken down or people want a quick explanation. According to Reports, Micheal Carneal fired 8 individual but quick shots with a semi automatic pistol. He shot 8 students, all in the head or the chest, and People in the extremist right wing groups quoting the nonsense that he learned this from Doom are idiots, for Doom has the thing where you fire the guns in the game, holding down  the fire button makes every gun, even a single fire gun like a shotgun fire multiple shots as the fire button on the mouse is held down… This is how doom “trains” fans to react….. (Trains is a bad word, but just go with me on this one)…

Carneal did not do this, because it said he brought 2 rifles, a shotgun, and a semiautomatic pistol into the school. None of those weapons are Full Auto the kind needed to replicate the way doom makes it so when you hold down the fire button more shots keep on firing. Semi automatic merely means that the clip for the gun holds more than one shot and the weapon can fire multiple shots before reloading… Nothing to do with this behavior, that only a full auto weapon can do, like a military grade assault rifle. Also Doom cannot simulate recoil, which all weapons had, so if he tried the “methods” doom “train” you to do in real life he would be aiming at the wrong place and would miss over and over again in the best case, or the gun would spiral out of control at the worst case, depending if he used a pistol (best case) or a full auto rifle (worst case).

I’ve been avoiding blogging on this one blog for one reason…. There hasn’t been any anti-gaming news stories of note lately… Until now.  On my first blog post I utterly debunked a hoax claim that was used to attack video games on many sites, ranging from medical journals, to newspapers, etc, the infamous “Doom will become reality hoax”. This is the first post  I am referring to. That hoax has been used to justify attacks on violent games, Doom specifically in at least 100 different “attack” sites.  Of course it wasn’t something the real school shooters said on their website, it was obviously fake.   Which brings me to this article.

http://extras.denverpost.com/news/shot0504f.htm

This article was written on May 4, 1999, right after columbine by 2 denverpost writers. They claim that on Harris’s AOL site there was a modified version of Doom that had begging students saying a certain quote, “god mode”, etc…. Among other things.  Similar stories with a similar “modified” version of doom had been popping up in other newspapers around then… I find this problematic that this hate site tracking group has to be the only group that even had knowledge of this “modified” version of doom.  Number 1 the hate site tracking group would have to know the EXACT Web path and file name to get this file if He did have such a modified doom version on his site. Since no one else has any corroborating evidence this mod exists (Harris’s Doom levels are freely available online, you’d think someone would have found this too…), then how the hell did some hate site tracking group (who by the way has no business tracking video games related stuff at all) find the file in the first place? If there is no link to the file at all, this is impossible.. PERIOD. They’d have to log onto his site to get a site file listing..  And without the password that is impossible, without hacking.  The article also goes into a claim that his school was made as a level for doom and duke3d. But this snopes article completely debunks that completely. There were never any CHS maps lying around on his site, nor was there any indication he was building one.  That disproves that… But what about the begging students supposedly found in this “modified” version of doom?

I have been literally playing AND editing doom in every way possible since 1997. I KNOW what is doable in doom with each source port. Since the source code for Doom was released online there have been multiple source ports that are basically souped up doom programs with new features. I know in 1999 the only major source ports out were Dosdoom, Legacy, Boom, MBF and some others.  If these begging students could be done in doom, I was going to find out. Using a doom Exe Editor (dehacked), I decided to run a test to see if Doom could even do what the articles claimed. I tried to debunk this claim through using dehacked  to see if it was possible and it was,  however upon searching for more info I came across This forum posted an article that was written in another newspaper 1 day before…  The first thing you notice is that the quote is         COMPLETELY DIFFERENT in this article. Also the denverpost article mentioned how the quote was “shouted” while this article says it’s “cried” out.. Hardly consistent. It’s like multiple writers all decided to write the same article but couldn’t get the details right, makes both articles very suspicious, in the truth department.  As a doom fan, reading the second article made me realize how impossible some of the claims are because, they mention the modified game had “Unlimited” weapons and ammunition right from the get go plus “God mode”. 2 out of these 4 are doable, but “unlimited” weapons are something that no game did in 1999, nevermind doom. And starting with unlimited weapons and ammunition is not even doable in doom.  The engine isn’t THAT customizable. It’s close but still could not be done back then.  What’s even worse is that another site brings up this hate site tracking group with further “evidence” a doom version like this exists (even though there is absolutely no evidence to support it’s claim), with completely DIFFERENT features:

http://serendip.brynmawr.edu/exchange/node/1723

This is a paper on violence in video games, a thesis. In it the same hate site tracking group claimed to have found a modified version of doom. In this version infinite ammo is brought up again as well as enemies that can’t fight back (students, probably), and this time it brings up the claim the mod added in a “second shooter”.  The second shooter thing could be multiplayer. But I don’t think the hate site tracking group is an expert on how to set up multiplayer games. So what else  could it be. Friendly AI? Not quite. Doom can do that, but here’s the catch. The first source port (altered doom program with more features) available to allow friendly characters to be made was called Marines best Friend, and was released in 1998. But… here’s the thing. The text file included in the port didn’t even mention what code pointers are needed in MBF to create a friendly “second shooter” using a dehacked patch (needed to make a “friendly” second shooter – it’s the only way). Not till 2000 did wads (doom addons) come out that even used this concept. The problem is that the paper then claims that the “second shooter” had extra weapons just as the player did. ANOTHER thing doom could not do in 1999. The whole “begging students” screaming out “lord, why did you do this to me?” thing has bothered me since I got my life threatened on the denverpost messageboard back in april 1999, by some moron (apparently a lawyer), who responded to my post on the forum basically ripping the columnists who wrote the article from denverpost, which I had read for the first time 5 minutes before posting.

So who is behind this nonsense? People might think the hate site tracking group is behind it, but I doubt it. For one there is not a SINGLE corroboration from them that they found this on ANY site. Number 2 searching for more info only lets you see news articles and other anti-gaming articles quoting the said news articles that end up quoting the same person from the hate site tracking group, but make that person say different things, and  at least one of those things wasn’t doable by doom before 2000.  I don’t know if the articles are fabricated or not my gut feeling tells me this “modified version of doom” is unlikely to be real. Who would gain from such articles?  We obviously had a ton of idiots who wanted violent games completely  banned since 1997 and even before that, merely for the fact that the games “offend” them. Of course they have to bring up the “save the children” card because saying “ban the game, it offends me” doesn’t work in this country for the most part.  Something like this could (and has) been used against ID Software for lawsuit purposes. Some people DO blame ID for the mere ABILITY to make such a tasteless mod. These articles,  Their being cited like wildfire in arguments to attack violent games. If you search for sites on google that quote the thesis article linked above you get these search results. At least 15 different sites are using the article to attack games. One post, which was obviously done by an anti-gaming moron, was posted  in a message board for an article condemning the SCOTUS decision on Brown VS EMA links to it to use it as “evidence” that violent games lead to real life crime, all while saying “SCOTUS doesn’t care about kids!!!! WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA”, basically, citing some case where the supreme court ruled in favor of “surprise!” not the kids…

You add in the troll on the denverpost message board who threatened me for merely saying one line he didn’t like “games shouldn’t be banned just because kids were killed”, and you end up getting possible motivation for the “lawyer” to threaten my life… I had posted the contents of the above denverpost article on their forum, said I was pissed off at the media. Since then I’ve been wondering just who this moron was.  I don’t know. He was basically  a “lawyer” troll with a pseudonym, who basically kept on insulting gamers over and over again calling us “gamer shitheads”, threatening to kill me, saying I should have been aborted, “crawl up your mothers fly infested c**t”, and much worse. What makes me think this moron was a lawyer? He had a justicemail.com email address, justicemail, email for the “law community”. Yeah. He even posted at the end “I have enough evidence to prove gamers get violent…” but that was deleted 5 minutes later. The suspicious thing is that 1) that last quote on evidence was deleted 5 minutes later 2) The justicemail.com account he used was deleted 5 years later, that entire forum doesn’t even exist online now. There is NO evidence but my word that this happened, and believe me it did. It basically made me absolutely despise morons like this who are (unfortunately) behind the anti-gaming movement. We have these questionable claims,  and the “doom will become reality” hoax that was “supposedly” written by Harris on his AOL site, and proven to be a hoax by the FBI. Yet literally hundreds of anti-violent games sites STILL Continue to use the articles, and the hoax as evidence that violent games make people violent, (and not being a racist, psychopath who wanted to be famous – the real reason!).Now we have these articles and even till this day, morons are still quoting them as evidence to attack SCOTUS, etc.

Even if this “modified version” of doom was REALLY found on his site by the attack group, it doesn’t rule out the idea that the modified version was NOT made by Harris, and was put online along with the fake “doom will become reality” hoax by unseen perpetrators who wanted to use Columbine as a reason to ban violent games. ANYONE with doom modding knowledge could have made this, just because HIS name was on a wall pattern doesn’t mean HE actually made it.  Hell even me, back in 1998 with crappy doom modding ability could have made something like this… In the 1999-2000 period there were at least 3 examples of “questionable” evidence being used to attack games. This is the worst. This whole thing is a shirtstorm that will never end.

Then you have the Attempted Violent game Bans in 1999 by two states. They failed. These would have banned violent games to everyone, not just kids. Everyone thinks just because our country has more freedoms then others, no one will attempt to ban things like this. It ALREADY HAS HAPPENED. Supreme court shot it down, thankfully. However all we need is another big tragedy like Columbine, with ties to violent games, and the morons have another excuse for the next complete violent game ban. It’s quite probable that stuff like the hoax and the MANY articles by newspapers all making up utter BS about violent games, lead to the government getting involved and attempting to ban violent games that year. You had at least 1 moron (the troll mentioned above) blaming ID software for the  “modified version of doom” being possible, not knowing that ID software had NOTHING to do with the modding for classic doom. It was several very dedicated fans with hex editors finding out the specs of the format of the game. Same for Wolf3d. ID software didn’t even release 1 EDITOR for the damn game. Not till quake (in 1996) did they do that (for quake not doom).  It keeps going on. It never ends. This stuff keeps fueling the fire of the anti-gaming movement.  It’s a never-ending cycle of BS.

The future defenders of the right to make/buy/play/own violent games has to be vigilant for the next wave of BS after a supposed video game related crime, of this degree. I wrote this article because 99% of the Gaming community does NOT know about half of this. It was swept under the rug by the media, and forgotten. Never forget the faked and “questionable”  evidence used to demonize games and the result (attempted outright bans of violent games).  This wasn’t the only major thing of this type where lies were used to try to legislate morality on this scale. Back during the SCOTUS Brown VS EMA thing in 2010, a certain violent games hating group submitted an Amicus Brief mentioning at least 3 known lies 1) Violent games are used in the military to break down the inhibition to kill 2) The “Doom will become reality Hoax”  3) Micheal Carneal became a better shot all because of Doom. They wanted the Supreme Court to believe this stuff and the Justices, not knowing these were NOT facts but absolute BS might have ruled the other way. You can be thankful they did rule the right way to prevent the badly constructed CA bill from being passed. You can’t use an Obscenity Clause (like the CA bill Did) to regulate what violent games to legislate in any way. Lacking “scientific, educational, or literary value” is not ground for fining companies who sell a game that the judges in the state find “offensive” because of these things, because those three values are…..Subjective!!!   Be on guard for the next attack when the censors will undoubtedly try something like this again with another game.

Addendum:

My work with dehacked to attempt to disprove the claim was done in the hope of a complete debunking of the “begging students” concept. I literally tried 2 times over the last few months to find SOMETHING in doom (a bug, an issue with 1 code pointer, etc) that would prevent this from even being possible. I failed. Twice. It sucks too, because I did come across a few bugs with the sound system but none of them really stopped the begging sound from being played, just partially obscured it. Without the internet search I would have found nothing to write about, really.

I decided to do a debunking video twice a week till I cannot do anymore due to battery life issues on my Digital camera.  This video debunks a not-so-widespread claim that Doom can train real marksman skills. I’ve debunked it before on a blog post but I’ve decided to debunk it in a video to show off the reasons why this simply isn’t possible. The claim surrounds Paducah, and Micheal Carneal, and was spread by people condemning violent games, claiming he had no practice with a fire arm and Doom taught him how to be an “efficient killer”. My debunking proves that this isn’t the case because the game isn’t realistic enough to train real firearm techniques. I also briefly talk about libel threats to blogs and the reasoning behind me pulling 10+ articles off this blog to prevent that.  My next 2 videos will be done either both next sunday or one next sunday and another next Wednesday.  Not sure which. Don’t know what things I will talk about either. It all depends on what I read before that.  Hope you enjoy it.
